My absolute favorite way to relax is by having a massage… not only is it an opportunity for you to lie down and zone out for 30-60 mins but it’s also incredibly rejuvenating and stress relieving. However, I will confess: I was a bit apprehensive about the idea of a couples massage until I was invited by Heart & Soul Spa which is located in Al Barari to review their Relaxing 60-minute Couples Massage.
The location itself is so beautiful that half of your stress is relieved just by looking at the greenery. Located in the heart of Al Barari, Heart & Soul Spa looks like a tropical resort. You lock all of your worries and anxieties away, the minute you step into the Spa. The feeling that you’re in a serene location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city is a very peaceful feeling in itself.
Couples massage is a popular service at the spa where two people are massaged in the same room, at the same time, by two different therapists. The idea of getting a massage with someone else in the room, even my husband, left me cold. What if he wants to talk and I don’t? Or the other way around? Or even worse – what if our therapists keep on chatting during our massage treatment? I’m not alone. Many experienced spa-goers find it distracting to be in the same room at the same time with anyone else during a massage. They prefer to get their massage alone and then meet up afterward.
Thanks to Heart & Soul Spa for changing my mindset about couple’s massage. It was nothing short of a romantic escape, in the midst of the picturesque Al Barari. Plus there wasn’t any added stress on my mind or the guilt, that he might be getting bored while I’m enjoying my rejuvenating massage.
There are two separate Spa entrances for men and women. However, the VIP couple’s treatment room upstairs can be accessed by both.

Before the 60-minute massage began, the therapist gave us forms, asking us separately which areas we wanted to focus on and those that we wanted to avoid – as a result of my stressful work schedule I opted for my back, and also my shoulders, thanks to my poor hunched back posture at my blogger desk.
The 60-minute massage takes place in the grandiose couple’s VIP room complete with a changing room, shower room, a toilet, and sauna. Following a warm foot cleanse the treatment began. We were asked to choose one out of three oils for massage. I chose the one with Jasmine whereas Mr. A chose an oil with a very masculine scent.
Using a mixture of classical and relaxation techniques medium pressure is applied to your body as the therapist works her way down your shoulders to your back and legs. The motion is rhythmic and systematic with the emphasis more on creating a relaxing sensation rather than ridding of knots. This allows your body to completely unwind especially when the massage ends with a therapeutic head massage – our favorite.
It wasn’t until I laid down on the bed under the warm blanket with the relaxing music chiming in the background that I realized how exhausted I was. It had been incredibly busy few weeks and it felt like it had suddenly caught up with me so the thought of a 60-minute massage made me feel so happy.
Both the therapists were very professional and knew what they were doing. They checked what pressure we wanted and if we had any areas that had tension so that they could focus on those. My therapist started with me lying face down and massaged pressure points on my back, shoulders, and legs before turning over and continuing on my front.
Both of the therapists’ massaging styles were very gentle and relaxing. The best part was that they weren’t talking among themselves. So despite being together, we could still enjoy our individual sessions side by side, without any disturbance. In fact, even when they wanted to ask us to turn over, they would whisper gently into our ears without making any unnecessary noise. It was one of the most relaxing massages we have had and left us feeling calm and peaceful. We would recommend it to all the couples to at least experience it once. We would definitely be going back.
